Deepening Your Love for Christ

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

Ladies, this time, I'd like to talk with you about deepening your love for the Savior.

I want you to think about your boys. How do they know what behaviors are expected of them? How do they understand what they must do to obey you? They spend time with you and you tell them, right?!

Well, think about your walk with the Lord. Do you know what is expected of you? Do you understand what you must do to obey the Lord? Are you giving Him your time?

Jesus said, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." (John 14:15) The only way we can do this, is by spending time reading His Word, so we can not only learn what is expected of us, but also get to know our Master in a more intimate way. Do you have a daily quiet time? You can deepen your love for the Lord by doing this. Why not commit yourself right now to spending time in the Word every day. We all fail at this at sometime in our lives. But pick yourself up, dust off… and say, "Let's begin afresh today!"

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

To illustrate the above verse, picture a pathway that you are walking down. The teaching is what you've been taught on how to stay right on the path. But, oops, you slip off the path… the reproof lets you know that you are in trouble, and that you have fallen away. The correction is what you must do to get back up on that pathway. and the training is what you must do to continue on the pathway with success in the future.

And what does this for us?!! Scripture! What a promise! And it says we will be "equipped for every good work." We just need to get ourselves into the Word, get to know what it says, and then obey it! Remember, our boys do not know how to obey us, if we don't tell them! Won't you give the Lord a chance to tell you… by spending time with Him?!

"Okay, Mrs. T… how do I do this?" you might be asking. First, let me say… plan it!! If you don't plan a quiet time with the Lord… it won't happen! You know what I mean, don't you?!! Well, here are just a few ideas to choose from to get you started:
  • Read a chapter of Proverbs every day. (On July 1st, read chapter one, on July 2nd, read chapter 2, etc.)

  • Read three chapters of the book of John each day, starting over every Sunday. (On Sunday, read chpt 1-3, on Monday read chpt 4-6 … on Saturday, read 19-21)

  • Read the book of 1st John every day for a month.

  • Read four chapters of Romans every day, starting over every fifth day.

  • Study the life of Christ. What did He do? Where did He go? What did He say?

  • Ask who? what? when? where? why? when you read.

  • Read through the Old Testament, getting as far as you can in one day, and pick up there the next day. (Two chapters a day will take you through the OT in a year or so.)

  • I'm going to be praying for you! I'm praying that you will draw nearer to Jesus Christ through His Word, and deepen your love for Him as you come to know Him more personally. Your salvation is nothing to be taken lightly. He died for us… we should be able to spend time with Him! Do it today, won't you?!
