Mother/Son Dance

Nothing profound or philosophical about my "notes" today... it is just that my son's wedding is in less than 2 weeks and we can't agree on a song for the mother/son dance! LOL -- Any ideas?? I need to make a decision FAST! I'm kind of leaning toward something completely instrumental because I haven't found any song with lyrics that are just right... and did I mention I can't dance?? :-/

If you have a thought, please reply to this email with "Mother/Son Dance" in the subject line! :-)

Winning Website

This whole website/blog is fantastic! The author, Nadene, lives with her family on a remote mountain farm in the Klein Karoo in the Western Cape, South Africa. Whether you love Charlotte Mason style homeschooling or enjoy reading about back-to- basics living, her varied writing (and illustrations!) will draw you in and inspire you.

Nadene also has many wonderful FREE resources -- notebooking pages, lapbooks and other printables. Especially do not miss her put on the full armor of God printable posters! She made one for her daughters and the demand was so great she added one for BOYS, too. :-)

Helpful Tip

Here are 93 educational apps to try out -- one for each day until school traditionally begins again after Labor Day this year! They've been divided into sections for pre-K, elementary school, middle school, high school, and apps for all.

Do you have a child who has trouble hearing how fast (or slow) he is pacing himself while making a speech? I noticed a cool app (PaceRecorder) that could help fix that problem! This list is worth browsing if you have an Android:

Practical Math Alternative to Algebra

"My daughter is entering 11th grade. We are looking for a math curriculum for her that includes home budgeting, banking, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!" -- Lesa

Our Answers
================

"Have you checked into the Stewardship curriculum from Math U See? Also, www.practicalmoneyskills.com might have some good things. I haven't had a chance to go through it thoroughly." -- Sonja W.

---

"I have always used Consumer Math from Abeka. I also had a couple of my kids do the one from Larry Burkett -- Money Matters for Teens (I think it's called)." -- Ronda C.

---

"Dave Ramsey has a curriculum! I can't wait to use it with my kids." -- Lynn H.

---

"Dave Ramsey is what we are using. He has a program for younger kids, and older kids can use the adult version. He may have something for them but I'm not sure. We did the adult class for ourselves and I found it easy to use for middle to high school age with some modifications; this being that the kids are not starting with debt they need to get rid of. But the core lessons are perfect." -- Jennifer L.

---

"Walch Publishing has a Consumer Math that looks to cover things pretty succinctly. I would also have them read Dave Ramsey, Zac Bissonnette, Larry Burkett and any other good financial advisor type personal finance books to round it out." -- Deb W.

---

"Math U See offers a Stewardship curriculum that covers all of that and more. It is reasonably priced but you might also find it on eBay." -- Rachael L.

New Reader's Question
=======================

"My son is getting a little older and in need of some educational websites. A lot of what we know about are for the younger crowd. He'd love some that would be more for 3rd grade or higher. If you have some you like please pass along the links. Thank you!" -- a HomeschoolingBOYS.com group member
